This year’s NJSDC meeting is underway in Atlantic City, Save Jerseyans, and it’s second most crotchety attendee (it’s a toss up between him and Loretta Weinberg) is speaking out against Democrats perceived as collaborating with the Christie Administration.
The Laut’s quote, via Matt Friedman:
“We see some Democrats sitting on their hands and even in some cases helping the Republicans, trying to move over on the other side to make up a few votes,” said Lautenberg. “It won’t help New Jersey if we leave the ranks of Democrats.”
Is Lautenberg criticizing Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo for backing pension reform? Cory Booker for supporting charters and Cap 2.0? Or Brian Stack for calling Christie the greatest NJ governor ever? The Laut undoubtedly still holds a grudge against Stack for backing Rob Andrews in the ’08 Senate Primary. He may, however, be taking a shot at George Norcross’s South Jersey machine, in persona Steve Sweeney, which has backed some of the Governor’s pension/union reform initiatives.
Blame vengeance, ideology or old age, but the Senator’s comments reflect clear divides in state party that still hasn’t managed to find a collective voice since the 2009 Election. The closest thing New Jersey Democrats have to a “leader” is the chief executive of Maryland, a problem which makes the decision between Tropicana and Balley’s seem pretty petty by way of comparison.
So rail on until dawn, Laut. Your agitation gives me comfort.
Norcross is Destroying American Politics and nobody had done anything about his corruption. NOBODY
Frank is still reeling from the first time his party split on some issues he backed Able over Kane. I can't believe people vote for this fossil.
