N.J. Democrat registration edge fell by another 8k in January 2024

You wouldn’t know it from looking at Election 2023’s legislative results, Save Jerseyans, but new data from the New Jersey Division of Elections shows continued progress by Republicans at chipping away at Democrats’ statewide registration advantage.

New Jersey Democrats lost 3,894 in January while New Jersey Republicans added 3,391 voters, a net swing of 7,825 in Republicans’ favor. There are still 2,496,518 Democrats to 1,549,728 Republicans, but that’s a significant decrease from the 1+ million advantage enjoys by Democrats until last year.

Republicans even added to their numbers in the sole remaining competitive congressional district in the state, at least in the 2024 cycle. The GOP picked up 388 new voters in NJ-07 last month to the Democrats’ 195. Republicans outnumber Democrats 207,425 to 190,477 in the Central Jersey swing district represented by freshman Congressman Tom Kean Jr.
