U.S. SENATE: Bashaw fumes over Kim’s refusal to debate before October

Thousands of New Jersey voters will cast ballots this fall before they ever get a chance to see a side-by-side comparison between the candidates for U.S. Senate.

On Tuesday, the campaign of Republican nominee Curtis Bashaw complained over Andy Kim having allegedly agreed to debate on News12 New Jersey in September before pushing the debate date to late October.

“On September 21st, general election ballots will start to be sent out to more than one-quarter of New Jersey voters, and it’s expected that many of these individuals will cast their vote in the days following,” said Bashaw Campaign Manager Angelo Lamberto. “Andy Kim’s campaign previously agreed to a debate on News12 New Jersey in September, giving all voters the opportunity to watch both candidates debate.  Now, Andy Kim is yanking that opportunity away from New Jerseyans who choose to vote by mail-in-ballot by not agreeing to debate until October.

“Why is Andy Kim suddenly hiding from New Jersey mail-in voters and postponing this debate? Does his polling show the same thing ours does? After almost two-decades of corruption from Bob Menendez that Andy Kim and the New Jersey Democrats enabled, ALL voters deserve full transparency and should have the same opportunity to see their major statewide candidates debate the issues before their ballots are cast,” added Lamberto. “By waiting to debate until October, Andy Kim is ensuring that over one-quarter of the state’s voters won’t have to hear him defend his record on open borders, raising taxes, and failing to keep our families safe.”

The major party candidates will meet on October 6th, too, in a debate hosted by New Jersey Globe. Recently convicted on federal corruption charges, Bob Menendez remains on the November ballot as an “independent” Democrat candidate but wasn’t invited to participate.

No New Jersey Republican has been elected to the U.S. Senate since 1972.
