Atlantic City is moving to cut ties (literally) with the Atlantic Shores offshore wind project, Save Jerseyans.
This week, Shell announced that it was ending its investment in the Atlantic Shores project near Long Beach Island and Brigantine, a $1 billion write-off that effectively doomed the state’s only present active offshore wind adventure.
Almost at the same time, Atlantic City’s Democrat Mayor Marty Small Sr. informed his city clerk that a public hearing would be held to repeal the ordinance granting easements to Atlantic Shores (see below).
“The tides are changing,” reacted Councilman Jesse Kurtz, one of the city’s three Republican councilmen. “Over 2,000 registered voters in Atlantic City rejected offshore wind destroying the city. I am very proud of my fellow citizens standing up to defeat this bad initiative.”
