State Senator Doug Steinhardt (R-23) will be New Jersey’s next U.S. Attorney, the state’s top law enforcement official at the federal level.
One of the more conservative members of the state legislature by voting record, Steinhardt’s anticipated nomination was first reported by The New Jersey Globe.
He’s worn a few different hats during his political career including a stint as NJGOP Chairman. An attorney at the politically powerful Floro Perrucci firm, Steinhardt is also the incumbent Warren County Republican chairman. The U.S. Attorney post is sometimes a springboard for bigger things; Chris Christie served as U.S. Attorney before resigning to run for governor in 2009. Steinhardt ran for governor (briefly) in 2021 before aborting his candidacy citing professional obligations.
