Chris Christie is unlikely to hit the trail in this year’s gubernatorial race because, frankly, he’s about as popular as a head cold among his own party members who once powered two successful gubernatorial campaigns.
A survey conducted by KAConsulting (Kellyanne Conway’s polling outfit) and obtained by Save Jersey delved into the GOP primary and also discovered that the former Governor’s favorability rating is upside down among Republicans by a wide margin, 28%-65%.
When those polled where told that 2025 candidate Bill Spadea once “asked his listeners to donate to Chris Christie’s presidential campaign so that Christie would be able to participate in a presidential debate,” 63% said it made them less likely to support Spadea as opposed to 10% who said it made them at least somewhat more likely to support the former NJ 101.5 morning host.
Conversely, 65% of the same pool of Republican Primary voters reports being more likely to back a Trump-endorsed candidate as compared to while just 9% who would be less likely.
Once believed to be a likely GOP presidential nominee in waiting, Christie’s fortunes plummeted during the Bridgegate scandal and eroded further amid a failed 2016 presidential campaign and, later, a derioration of his once cordial relationship with Donald Trump.
