The Trump Administration is continuing to challenge higher education, Save Jerseyans, including alleged Title VI violations at New Jersey’s largest university system.
On Friday, the Department of Education announced that it had, as relayed on X by an official White House account, “opened investigations into 45 universities under Title VI for alleged impermissible use of race-exclusionary preferences, race-based scholarships, and/or race-based segregation.” Title VI bars discrimination based on race in the realm of education.
One of the named universities: Rutgers University based in New Brunswick.
The Trump Administration had previously warned 60 institutions including three in New Jersey – Princeton University, Rutgers University, and Rutgers-Newark – that they risk losing federal funding if they don’t work harder to guarantee that Jewish students are afforded “safe and equal access to education.”
“The Department [of Education] will no longer tolerate the overt and covert racial discrimination that has become widespread in this Nation’s educational institutions,” explained a prior Februaey 14th letter striking out against DEI programs and initiatives. “The law is clear: treating students differently on the basis of race to achieve nebulous goals such as diversity, racial balancing, social justice, or equity is illegal under controlling Supreme Court precedent.”
No stranger to embracing far-Left causes, Rutgers has leaned into DEI. “Recognizing diversity, fostering inclusion, and working towards common core values have become more urgent than ever … As globalization renders our society increasingly multicultural, the answer lies in thinking more, not less, about the common bonds, public resources, and civic systems that bind us together as a nation, lest the very diversity we celebrate divides us,” explained the Task Force on Inclusion and Community Values’ strategic plan.
Rutgers’s student population is approximately 69,000 strong, and the university receives millions of dollars in federal aid annually. U.S. universities cumulatively receive about one quarter of a trillion dollars in government aid (state and federal).
