Habba launches N.J. Election Intergrity Task Force

Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and former White House Counsel Alina Habba announced on Tuesday the creation of a task force designed to “preserve and protect the integrity of elections conducted in the District of New Jersey” according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

The federal “Election Integrity Task Force” – comprised of federal prosecutors working with FBI and DHS officials, among others – will work “to implement the directives set forth in the President’s March 25, 2025 Executive Order concerning elections.”

Here are the objectives as set forth in the release:

  • “Facilitating information sharing between federal, State, and local officials to enhance the ability of election officials to efficiently and effectively remove individuals who are not eligible to vote from State voter lists.”
  • “Prioritizing the investigation and prosecution of election crimes, including but not limited to, federal statutes that prohibit voter registration fraud, casting of fraudulent ballots, voting by non-citizens, individuals voting multiple times in same election, and foreign interference caused by foreign nationals contributing or donating funds to United States elections.”
  • “Taking appropriate steps to ensure compliance with the voter list maintenance requirements of the National Voter Registration Act and the Help America Vote Act.”

She may have her hands full cleaning up the voter rolls. Two watchdog groups recently reported tens of thousands of suspicious registrations as well as possible double voting in 2024.

Habba has been active in the early days of her tenure as a federal prosecutor, most recently threatening to investigate and possibly prosecute Governor Phil Murphy and N.J. Attorney General Matt Platkin over their sanctuary state policies and directives.

She is also rolling out a separate task force targeting the fentanyl crisis.

“The District of New Jersey’s Fentanyl Precursor Interception (FPI) Strike Force will coordinate with The DEA in NJ to destroy the fentanyl supply chain, focusing on dismantling overseas chemical manufacturers from flooding our country with the precursors used to manufacture this deadly drug,” Habba posted on X. “Not surprising this includes shipments from China…among others.”
