Ciattarelli, Sherrill took very different (and revealing) positions on the Iran strikes

New Jersey’s politics is changing, Save Jerseyans.

The reliable polling, the recent results, voter registrations, and renewed interest from a reinvigorated national GOP all tell part of the story, but you can even detect an environmental shift by listening to the rhetoric of the respective major party candidates for governor in 2025. Something is different this year.

On Sunday, Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli offered full-throated support for President Trump’s decision to strike three Iranian sites tied to the pariah state’s nuclear weapons program, calling it “the right move.”

The Democrat nominee – Mikie Sherrill – is no stranger to running against Donald Trump for lack of something compelling to run on herself. But Sherrill didn’t scream “impeach!” this time like many in her party after bunker buster bombs punched deep holes in Iranian facilities. The Montclair Congresswoman didn’t even tweet from her X account. Instead, what we got was a bland argument concerning a preference for congressional input…

So the Republican is unambiguously standing behind the Commander in Chief.

The Democrat is suddenly sounding a bit… careful. At least on this issue.

Perhaps the contrast on Iran tells us something about the candidates. It definitely speaks volumes about the state of play as Election 2025 begins in earnest.
