Interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba says Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is planning to sue the federal government after charges were brought – and later dropped – against him for allegedly trespassing at an ICE detention facility.
The Trump Administration is also currently suing four New Jersey cities including Newark over their individual sanctuary state policies.
“’Shocking’ leak from Mayor Baraka’s team: He is planning to sue the Feds,” Habba posted on X late Monday. “My advice to the mayor – feel free to join me in prioritizing violent crime and public safety. Far better use of time for the great citizens of New Jersey.”
There hadn’t been a media report on a Baraka lawsuit nor a release from the campaign as of Monday evening.
Baraka is considered a leading candidate in next Tuesday’s Democrat gubernatorial primary.
