Well, at least we (should) remember where they stand!
New Jersey Democrats voted to table legislation on Monday which would’ve codified a voter identification requirement in New Jersey and protected girls’ sports from trans athletes.
Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia’s A4248 went down in a party-line vote, 44 to 28. Had it passed and been signed into law, “[a] voter, whether voting in person or through mail-in ballot, would be required to show or submit a copy of a New Jersey’s driver’s license, New Jersey nondriver’s identification card, or other document, that includes all of the following criteria: (1) the name of the voter to whom the document was issued; (2) a photograph of the voter to whom the document was issued; (3) an expiration date, showing that the document is not expired or expired only after the date of the most recent election; and (4) was issued by the federal government or this State.”
Meanwhile, A775 – the “Fairness in Women’s Sports” Act – sponsored by Fantasia, Gregory McGuckin, and Paul Kanitra went was defeated by a near identical margin.
“Democrats BLOCKED the vote saying this issue of boys playing in women sports is really not an issue. I respectfully disagree,” opined Assemblywoman Victoria Flynn of Monmouth County. “I am on the sidelines of competitive girl sports and see it is happening. The female athletes in this state demand fairness in sports.”
And the worst part, Save Jerseyans?
Vulnerable Assembly Democrats got a “pass” and declined to vote altogether, taking the objectively craven way out of politically difficult votes in an election year.
Assembly members Heather Simmons and Dave Bailey Jr. of LD3 (Salem, Gloucester) – carried by Donald Trump – popped up as “not voting” on the board for both bills. So did Dan Hutchinson and Cody Miller of battleground LD4 (Gloucester, Camden) and Andrea Katz of LD8 (Burlington).
