Weather forecasters were calling for heavy rain and thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon, Save Jerseyans, which we all know is not unusual for July.
But apparently it’s a reason to give the state’s workforce a half day?
Phil Murphy is presently sunning his rear end at his Italian villa, so Acting Governor Tahesha Way issued a full-on State of Emergency for the entirety of the state beginning at 2:00 PM EST today owing to anticipated ugly weather (of 1 to 3 inches, by the way). Executive Order No. 394 “declares a State of Emergency across all 21 counties, closing state offices early and allowing for resources to be deployed throughout the state during the duration of the storm,” according to the official press release from the governor’s office.
I’ll say what we all are hopefully thinking:
Are you fucking kidding me?
If you see a flooded road? Don’t drive through it.
If there’s lightning? Stay indoors or at least inside your car.
If you’re having a picnic on a river bank? Cancel it.
All nasty weather isn’t an emergency. The real emergency, of course, continues to be the rapidly falling customer service AND general worth ethic standards across-the-board in New Jersey state government. Can I go home early from my job because of THAT? Somehow I don’t think my boss would go for it.
