It’s tight, Save Jerseyans. Very tight.
This week, the Kellyanne Conway’s polling outfit release new survey results showing a close race for New Jersey governor about 3 1/2 months removed from Election Day. The telephone survey of 800 likely and registered voters between June 24th and June 27th found Democrat Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (47%) ahead of Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli (42%) by 5-points statewide.
Arguably the most important finding is that the general environment appears to favor the challenger.
Here are some of the key findings:
- Ciattarelli jumps to a 7-point lead when it’s a push poll and voters find out about Sherrill’s wacky positions.
- 60% want a candidate who will work WITH President Trump while only 34% want a governor who will primarily oppose him
- 53% believe New Jersey is on the wrong track
- 63% want a change from Murphy’s direction
- 57% would not vote for Murphy again
- 63% want a new direction for the state
- 50%+ of voters oppose Sherrill’s stated views on taxes, protecting girls’ sports, and green energy scam
Ciattarelli fell 3-points short of upsetting Murphy in 2021; polling at this same point in that cycle showed Ciattarelli trailing by double digits.
“No wonder Trenton and DC Democrats are dispatching record resources (in July!) to prop up Mikie Sherrill’s campaign,” said Carlos Cruz, the spokesperson for Change NJ, a pro-Ciattarelli pac that sponsored the poll. “Mikie Sherrill broke the law to make millions for herself, while voting to raise taxes on the rest of us. Her voting record is a nightmare for middle class, middle of the road families across the Garden State.”
