Sherrill’s handlers may’ve realized that she’s kind of stupid

Let’s put some facts in evidence from the start:

  • My friend David Wildstein reported on Monday that “[f]ormer Superior Court Judge Timothy Lydon is taking a leave of absence from his post as executive director of the New Jersey Senate Majority Office to head up the policy shop for Democrat Mikie Sherrill’s campaign for governor and serve as general counsel to the campaign.” That’s a highly unusual move. Maybe he’s tired of hanging out with Nick Scutari? Couldn’t blame him. More likely, however, is that Sherrill’s handlers realize her policy knowledge is an inch deep and she needs help. Stat. In case you missed it, click here to watch a recent interview during which she couldn’t identify a single piece of legislation she’d like to champion for passage!
  • Sherrill (or her staff) is severely limiting the Democrat nominee’s public appearances. One X account juxtaposed two maps with the campaign’s recent stops overlayed, respectively, and it’s clear that Sherrill is covering a fraction of the territory covered by Jack Ciattarelli.
  • Despite the fact that she’s running for governor and therefore presumably wants to do the job, Sherrill has yet to pass judgment on the final budget of the guy who currently has the job (Phil Murphy). Imagine running for Congress next year and not having an opinion on the Big Beautiful Bill? It’s incredible.

That’s the state of play with four months left to go, Save Jerseyans.

Watch this if you haven’t already seen it:

Terrible, right??

What’s clear to me: Sherrill’s handlers have come to the realization that their candidate is a species of idiot. Candidly, I’m not sure how she ever flew a helicopter and find myself questioning whether those clips she recycled in past campaign advertisements were real or AI-generated! She’s the Kamala of the East Coast. So Team Sherrill is getting their gal a tutor (Lydon) but also falling back on the 2024 Harris playbook of hiding her in the basement except to the extent absolutely necessary due to the realities of the campaign calendar.

Can she successfully hide? Is it a viable strategy in 2025?

I think the answer is… it depends.

Jack is raising money. Jack is likely to get outside assistance which proved elusive in 2021. The liberal editorial boards which used to run interference for New Jersey Democrat candidates are blissfully gone.

If the national environment deteriorates for Republicans? She might be able to pin her hopes on the state’s 800,000+ Democrat registration advantage and the Law of Gravity.

But if it doesn’t, Save Jerseyans, then Democrats better hope the Congresswoman flies her helicopter to Oz and convinces the Wizard to gift her a brain.

Whether Sherrill’s handlers understand that much remains to be seen.
