Both the Atlantic Shores and Orsted projects are dead in the water, Save Jerseyans, so the Southern Jersey Shore is enjoying its first summer in years without the active threat of offshore wind development hanging over residents, business owners and tourtists.
On Tuesday, President Trump celebrated this milestone on his Truth Social platform.
“To the many Great Americans enjoying their Summer Vacations in Atlantic City, Wildwood, and Cape May, in the wonderful State of New Jersey, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean: Remember that your Republican Congressman, and my GREAT friend, Jeff Van Drew, is fighting hard, and WINNING, to keep your Beaches BEAUTIFUL, with NO WINDMILLS,” Trump posted. “In fact, we just beat one of the biggest Windmill projects anywhere in the World. It would have been a disaster, but they gave up because of the onslaught of “TRUMP”/Van Drew. Great job, Jeff!”
One of President Trump’s first acts upon returning to office in January 2025 was the issuance of an executive order pausing new offshore wind development.
Van Drew responded by thanking the president for his support.
“Our beautiful shores are worth fighting for,” Van Drew, who represents the Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, posted on X.
Van Drew famously switched parties back in 2019 over objections to his party’s pursuit of impeachment over Russiagate. President Trump has since comes to NJ-02 twice – both times to Wildwood, in 2020 and 2024 respectively – to rally with Van Drew.
