The Trump Administration is moving rapidly to address staffing challenges and outdated technology at Newark Liberty International Airport.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy (a resident of Mendham Township, New Jersey) touted the installation of a new fiber optic cable which is expected to prevent future outages like those experienced in April which snarled traffic and created potential safety issues at one of the nation’s busiest air travel hubs. On two instances, air traffic control was reportedly blind for as long as 90 seconds.
“That new fiber line’s not stood up yet because we’re testing it right now,” Duffy explained back at the end of May. “The FAA has some pretty laborious testing procedures […] but that process is underway and again happening very quickly.”
The installation is now complete, installed ahead of the July 4th holiday and already improving communications.
“This couldn’t happen without the leadership of President Trump,” Duffy explained.
