Murphy throws Sherrill under the bus, “not sure” how her electric bill plan would work

Sherrill (right) poses with her close ally Phil Murphy

With friends like Phil Murphy, does Mikie Sherrill really need Republicans, Save Jerseyans?

The term-limited Democrat governor took a sledgehammer to his would-be successor this week, telling reporters that he was “not sure” how Sherrill’s proposed electric bill freeze would work. I don’t think anyone really saw it coming! And Murphy’s words came as an unwelcome rebuke to the Democrat nominee.

“I’m not sure how you’d actually do that,” Governor Murphy said. “These are private-sector players. I’m not sure if she got into the details as to how you do it, but we’ve been spending morning, noon, and night on energy, energy sources, energy affordability for years.”

He’s not wrong, of course, marking the first time (in a long time) that I’ve been forced to agree with Snagletooth.

Sherrill had held a rainy outdoor presser earlier in the week to announce her intention to declare a “state of emergency” pertaining to surging electric bills come January. Among her proposals was a rate freeze but neither Sherrill nor her campaign have even attempted to articulate how a freeze would be implemented.

Many New Jerseyans are seeing their electric bills double this summer after the implementation of 17-20% increases driven by plummeting supply. Six Garden State power plants have closed on Phil Murphy’s watch but the “green” energy obsessed Democrat administration hasn’t replaced any of them, opting instead to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the failed offshore wind industry. Sherrill and fellow Democrats, eager to deflect blame, have attempted to scapegoat PJM, the utility companies, and even President Trump.

“It’s possible Mikie went into this in more detail — I don’t know what that means,” added Murphy. “These are private-sector players. I’m a proud progressive and a cold-blooded capitalist. I believe there are ways to get to where we want to get to. I’m open-minded to everything, but I’m not sure what that means, and I’d love to get more detail on that, which we will.”

Sherrill is presently in a single-digit race with Republican Jack Ciattarelli to succeed Phil Murphy as governor. Democrats on the verge of blowing this race in a state where they still have an 800,000 registration advantage.

Here’s a hard truth: Mikie Sherrill is a profoundly stupid person who’s not qualified to run a garage sale, let alone serve as the governor of New Jersey. Even Phil knows it.
