Politicians take credit for everything, and sometimes things that are a stretch (at best).
It takes a special level of shamelessness to take credit for stuff you didn’t vote for. But that’s Congresswoman Nelli Pou (D, NJ-09), Save Jerseyans. Pou, a first term Democrat who represented a Trump +1 district in North Jersey, toured MetLife Stadium earlier this month to brag about the security for next year’s World Cup and illustrated why she’s her own biggest liability heading into the Midterms.
“All authorities are working hard to protect the event and its participants,” the Congresswoman opined in a statement. “Congress’s job here is to help keep everyone working together and provide whatever federal resources we can to assure total security. We have work to do to be ready for next summer.”
Pou’s office has also said that “the first-term congresswoman is working to provide resources for state and local law enforcement so there is better coordination and transparency between the elected officials in the region and FIFA as it relates to security.”
Here’s the fun part: the $625 million in federal monies earmarked for World Cup security is in the Working Families Tax Cut which Pou voted AGAINST.
But there’s more! Pou recently celebrated the passage of legislation impacting her district which, again, she didn’t vote for.
Yikes, right?
Pou may get a real challenge this year after having only won her first full term by a few points last November.
“Clueless Nellie Pou is so wildly incompetent she can’t even keep her own voting record straight. New Jerseyans deserve a representative who knows how to fight to cut costs and keep them safe, and that is clearly not Nellie Pou,” said NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole in reaction to what’s clearly emerging as a less-than-honest pattern.
