Has McIver ever considered just saying sorry?

If there’s one thing that’s lacking in our modern society, Save Jerseyans, it’s collective value placed on the simple act of taking ownership of failure.

In other words: no one takes responsibility for anything. Shame is dead.

“Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being,” Eleanor Roosevelt famously observed. “With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry his own weight, this is a frightening prospect.”

Who wants to tell Congresswoman Lamonica McIver?

The disgraced North Jersey Democrat announced on Monday that she’s filing an appeal after a district court judge declined back in November to dismiss charges pending against her. McIver is accused of assaulting federal law enforcement – specifically ICE – during a scuffle at Newark’s Delaney Hall Detention Facility back in May.

“This appeal is for everyone who is standing up to this administration as they try to operate without oversight, silence the people who oppose them, and shut down those who protect the vulnerable,” McIver declared in a statement.

Is “standing up to this administration” (read: Trump) her first and highest duty as a legislator? And a human being? Maybe, just maybe, the people she’s supposed to represent would be better served by an elected official who did something truly novel and led by example by admitting when she had crossed a line? The video speaks for itself: McIver stuck her forearm directly into an officer (for starters). If you or I did what she was caught on video doing at a baseball game, public protest, or during a traffic stop? We’d be knocked on our ass, cuffed, booked, and looking at serious legal consequences!

McIver isn’t pinning her hopes on successfully denying the assault because, well, it’s on video. Her legal team argued (1) selective prosecution and (2) legislative immunity. The district judge found on evidence of selective prosecution and, of course, legislative immunity doesn’t extend to assaulting an officer regardless of said official’s reason for visiting a facility.

Therein lies the problem with McIver and her morality or lack thereof. Leftists are unapologetic moral relativists, and McIver clearly believes she’s immune from consequences – and the responsibilites associated with her powerful position – because she believes in the validity of her cause. This is really going to piss her off, but this really is an exceptionally glaring and gross case of PRIVILEGE run amok.

Has she considered saying sorry? I doubt it. Her politics, her privilege, a complicit media and our diseased culture provide little incentive. But she should. She really, absolutely should. It’d go a long way towards providing precisely the sort of redemptive example we need right now.
