N.J. Democrats slightly outpace Republicans with new voter registrations in December

New Jersey’s registered voter mix didn’t change much in December 2025, Save Jerseyans, but the change in the trend may be worth noting.

Last month, Democrats gained a net of 2,321 voters statewide while Republicans picked up 2,016, a net increase for the majority party of 305 voters statewide,

In battleground NJ-07, Republicans lost 33 votes while Democrats added 206. Congressman Tom Kean Jr. is waiting to see who from a large field of Democrats while challenge him in a Central Jersey district that went very narrowly for Mikie Sherrill in November.

The potentially significant part: Republicans gained on Democrats almost every month following Joe Biden’s victory in 2020; the reversal could indicate a shift of momentum after years of small but steady GOP registration gains. Democrats once boasted an over one million edge which gradually fell to the mid-800,000 range across all 21 counties.

Cory Booker and all 12 members of the U.S. House are on the ballot this year in addition to a number of down-ballot county and local races.

The legislature isn’t on the ballot again until 2027.
