Mikie Sherrill’s likely replacement in Congress – Analilia Mejia (D, NJ-11) – is feeling pretty salty over this weekend’s historic events in Iran.
“The President has launched an unlawful regime change war with Iran, putting American troops at risk,” Mejia complained on X on Saturday afternoon after news of ‘Operation Epic Fury’ broke across the globe. “Congress must return now to vote on the bipartisan War Powers Resolution. Every member of Congress and candidate must take action to uphold the Constitution.”
Her comments echo those of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani who decries the strikes as “a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression.”
Meanwhile, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (D, NJ-05) applauded the success of U.S. and Israeli forces.
Mejia won a special primary ahead of the April general election date to select Governor Sherrill’s House successor. She’ll still need to compete again in June and November for a full new term.
