Van Drew secured millions for a Cape May sea wall project. The mayor is repaying him with a campaign challenge.

Cape May City Mayor Zack Mullock is running for Congress in NJ-02, Save Jerseyans, joining an already crowded primary of assorted wackos, insurrectionists, socialists and other nut jobs hoping to win the Democrat Primary and challenge Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R) this November.

Mullock is running on a “community first” theme, an objectively weak knockoff of “America First.”

What Mullock may have a tough time explaining is how much Jeff Van Drew doesn’t deserve another term after delivering in a very big way for Cape May, specifically in relation to one of the mayor’s alleged pet projects.

On Friday, Congressman Van Drew announced that the Trump Administration had officially signed off on the Cape May City Seawall Flood Mitigation Project. The green light is accompanied by over $24.3 million which would help protect the iconic beach resort in future storms threatening the coastline.

“I just heard directly from the Secretary of Homeland Security’s office that this project has officially been authorized,” said Van Drew. “This is a major breakthrough for Cape May and for our entire shoreline. This section of Cape May was identified after Hurricane Sandy as a serious weak point, and that vulnerability has not gone away. The next major storm is not a matter of if, but a matter of when. This seawall project is making sure we are not caught unprepared. Thank you to the administration for making our coastline a priority. This has been a big week for our shore. I am proud to keep delivering real results and making sure South Jersey gets the attention it deserves.”

Mullock recently complained that the city had waited a long time for the project to move forward. He called on Jeff Van Drew, Senator Cory Booker, and Senator Andy Kim to help.

Van Drew didn’t just talk about “community first.” He delivered and pulled the project across the finish line. Not Booker, Kim or Mullock.

It’ll make for a fun debate moment (if Mullock gets that far).
