The Republican National Committee (RNC) is suing the bergen County Board of Elections, Save Jersyans.
In its complaint filed on Monday in Bergen County Superior Court, the GOP’s primary national arm alleged that the Board improperly denied an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request for a list of poll workers during the 2025 cycle.
“The RNC’s party members, and any member of the public, have the right to know the list of poll workers assigned to the voting districts within Bergen County,” the complaint explains. “No known state interest outweighs the right of the RNC to obtain this basic-level due diligence information. Indeed, sixteen other counties have fully responded with information and records responsive to the Request, including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren counties.”
Sixteen other New Jersey counties complied, while Bergen’s Board alleged “security measures and surveillance techniques.”

RNC Chairman Joe Gruters questioned the state’s most populous county’s rationale for attempting to hide the football.
“Transparency isn’t optional in our elections – it’s the bare minimum,” said Chairman Gruters. “More than a dozen other New Jersey counties have successfully turned over these basic public records – but Bergen County has refused. This should concern every voter. The people of New Jersey deserve to know that their election officials are following the law and that poll workers are being assigned fairly. Clearly these records are routine, so what does Bergen County have to hide?”
