Jersey Shore Republicans Seek to Diminish Incumbents’ Institutional Advantages

The LD1 Republican challengers Susan Adelizzi-Schmidt, Sam Fiocchi and Kristine Gabor are off to a promising start in the money game, Save Jerseyans, having outraised Democratic incumbents Jeff Van Drew and Nelson Albano, and Bob Andrzejczak by an almost 3-to-1 margin.
Here are the totals provided by the LD1 campaign on its 29-day pre-election report:
It’s a similar story a little further up the GS Parkway in LD2 where challenger Frank X. Balles reported hauling in $116,582, $108,512 cash-on-hand, in his bid to unseat incumbent State Sen. Jim Whelan of Atlantic City.
The politically changeable Van Drew made statewide news recently when Gov. Christie thanked him for backing his income tax cut proposal. I’m glad to see it hasn’t affected his challengers’ bottom line; Governor Christie’s efforts to rebuild the State Supreme Court is effectively over after November if Republicans don’t flip the upper chamber.
