With Obamacare failing but Republicans deadlocked over possible alternatives, is single-payer healthcare inevitable?
Heads up, Save Jerseyans: During a press availability on Wednesday, N.J. Democrat nominee for governor Phil Murphy (D-Goldman Sachs) said “it has to be on the list… I’d like to see Medicare for all.”

His opponent pounced.
“Today, Phil Murphy doubled down on his support for single-payer government-run healthcare in New Jersey. Before they scrapped their plan in California, they estimated government-run healthcare would cost $400 billion,” said Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, the Republican gubernatorial nominee. “In New Jersey, it could cost more than $68 billion. Even Bernie Sanders’ Vermont abandoned plans for single-payer because it cost too much and would force a massive tax hike on businesses and families.”
The idea remains controversial even among Democrats. One January 2017 poll by Pew Research found only 40% of Democratic voters nationwide favoring a single-payer system.
