Atlantic County Chairman Keith Davis, longtime leader of the GOP in his home county, will step down as chairman effective March 25, 2022.
Davis made the announcement in a letter forwarded to municipal leaders on Thursday. He cited joining the board of a 527 that will focus on electing Republicans in South Jersey as the reason for his decision.
News had broken earlier in the week that Don Purdy – a rival of Davis’s aligned with newly-minted Senate Vince Polistina – was poised to challenge Davis for the chairmanship.
The Linwood attorney began his tenure as chairman 16-years ago. Vice Chair Rosalie Baker will serve as acting chair until a special election is held to choose a permanent replacement.
