Tom Malinowski may appear on the November ballot… twice?

Tom Malinowski

So-called “fusion voting” is illegal in New Jersey for a century, Save Jerseyans. You can’t run on more than one party lines and then add up your vote total.

Tom Malinowski’s allies may need a refresher.

According to The New Jersey Globe, a third party led by liberal Republican is attempting to place Malinowski (D, NJ-07) on the ballot as a “Moderate Party” candidate.

While it’s not clear that Malinowski had anything directly (or indirectly) to do with the petition drive, national and state Republicans were quick to cite the Democrat incumbent’s own troubled ethical history (he’s still under investigation for over a million dollars in unreported stock trades).

“It shouldn’t be surprising that Tom Malinowski is using unethical means to desperately cling to his job where he uses his office to do unethical things. What is surprising is that he believes New Jersey voters will fall for his embarrassing attempt to distance himself from Democrats’ failed progressive agenda in Washington,” said NRCC Spokeswoman Samantha Bullock.

The RNC chimed in by pointing out the inappropriateness of the “moderate” label given Malinowski’s history of voting with Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time during the 117th Congress.

“Tom Malinowski a moderate? As he would say, that’s a load of made-up’ crap,” added RNC Spokesperson Rachel Lee.

Malinowski’s district grew redder in redistricting and is considered the most likely Democrat-held N.J. seat to flip in November.
