So far in 2022, N.J. Republicans registration gap with Dems shrinks by 61k+ voters

A red state? Perhaps not, but it’s progress.

New Jersey Republicans only managed to pick up one U.S. House seat in 2022 thanks in large part to a shamelessly gerrymandered comgressional map, but they are on track to end the year with a respectable net voter registration pick up across all 21 counties.

From January 1st to December 1st, New Jersey Democrats were down a net of 43,558 registered voters statewide (from 2,576,402 to 2,532,844) while Republicans were up 17,836 (from 1,510,165 to 1,528,001).

The end result: the Democrat registration edge shrunk by 61,394.

Meanwhile, the ranks of the unaffiliated fell by 50,337.

The GOP needs another net gain of 4,843 to overcome the Democrats’ symbolic one million registrant advantage, a goal which seems achievable in early 2023 since the Democrats’ registration gap has decreased by an average of 5,581 voters throughout the first 11 months of 2022.
