Fulop, Ciattarelli tweet barbs over taxes and Election 2025

Two declared 2025 gubernatorial candidates traded barbs via Twitter on Tuesday over Jersey City taxation.

Ex-2021 GOP nominee Jack Ciattarelli took his shot in a retweet of Democrat Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s own tweet urging his party’s legislative majority to maintain the state’s corporate surtax.

“Is this the 2nd coming of Murphy?” Ciattarelli tweeted. “It’s bad enough Fulop put a Jersey City employer payroll tax in place. Now, just like the Murphy, he wants to drive more businesses out of NJ.”

Fulop responded by taking a dig at the three-time Republican gubernatorial candidate.

“In the 10 years you’ve been losing election after election for governor, I’ve been running Jersey City quite successfully. But nevertheless I’m looking forward to debating these things with Bill Spadea in the general election,” tweeted Fulop, referring to the NJ 101.5 host who hasn’t formally announced but who is also expected to enter the NJGOP primary as early as later this year.
