N.J. Republicans decrease Democrat statewide registration lead by another 2k

New Jersey Republicans continued their post-Trump Administration registration gains in May 2023, adding 1,878 registered voters to their ranks while Democrats lost 119 statewide.

That’s a nearly 2,000 vote swing in the GOP’s favor heading into Primary Day.

The Democrat statewide edge is still massive (996,026), but it’s still below the 1 million plus high water mark achieved by Phil Murphy’s party during the Trump years. By way of reference, the gap stood at around 700,000 when Chris Christie defeat Jon Corzine in 2009.

Ocean County is home to the state’s largest raw number of registered Republicans: 181,039. Monmouth County (153,126) and Bergen County (151,964) round out the top three.
