N.J. employers face massive fines under new law for turning in illegal alien workers

The purported reason for the law? Protecting immigrants who reported labor violations from retaliation.

But is that really what this is all about?

While Governor Murphy enjoyed his Italian getaway, Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way signed S-2869 which will levy fines between $1,000 and $10,000 on New Jersey employers for even threatening to blow the whistle on an illegal immigrant worker’s status in our country to the government. The fines only kick in if the employer tried to dime out his or her own employee “for the purpose of concealing any violation of State wage, benefit and tax laws,” but if you’re paying illegals, then there’s a good chance that you’re violating something. So you’re essentially making it harder for small businesses to hire the class of individuals which you (the Democrat politician) encouraged to break into the country in the first place.

Illegals already enjoy broad employment arena protections under both state and federal law, but we’re hearing a different narrative out of Trenton.

“New Jersey’s greatest strength lies in its diverse and dedicated workforce,” said Acting Governor Way.“No worker should face harassment or intimidation from their employers. This legislation reaffirms our administration’s commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment, ensuring all workers have the legal protections they need to feel secure in their day-to-day lives.”

“No worker should be forced to turn a blind eye to their employer’s unlawful behavior out of fear of being prosecuted for their immigration status,” added Democrat Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz. “By establishing a penalty for employers who weaponized an employee’s immigration status against them to violate the law, we will protect worker’s rights and hold businesses accountable for exploitative behavior.”

Something tells me that the end result here will be different than the one we’re being sold here in Sanctuary State New Jersey.
