It’s music to our ears, Save Jerseyans!
The Media is naturally focusing on President Donald Trump’s remarks concerning the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico (which isn’t a bad idea, by the way!), but my fellow Jersey Shore lovers are fist-pumping over the incoming president reiterating his support for an offshore wind ban during a Tuesday mornigng Mar-a-Lago presser. Specifically, the President-elect is promising to pursue “a policy where no windmills are being built.”
“They only work if you get subsidy. The only people who want them are the people getting rich off windmills, getting massive subsidies from the U.S. government,” said Trump, before adding how “off the coast of New Jersey, they want build like 200 windmills. The people are going crazy; nobody wants them.”
The reviled Orsted “Ocean Wind” project planned for the waters of Cape May County, New Jersey, died on Halloween 2023 but the Biden Administration greenlit a new project in October 2024 – Atlantic Shores – which would be viewable from many iconic Jersey Shore communities. Meanwhile, marine mammals continue to wash up on beaches up-and-down the East Coast more than likely due to the known increased risk of whale and dolphin tests associated with sonar mapping activities.
Trump isn’t wrong… New Jersey taxpayers have lost hundreds of millions of dollars on offshore wind to date including $175 million which the Murphy Administration let the Danish offshore wind company (Orsted) pocket as a part of a settlement.
