N.J. Dems running for governor skip vote on Laken Riley Act

There’s nothing controversial about the Laken Riley Act, Save Jerseyans, which every voting House Republican and 48 Democrats supported on Tuesday (264 to 159). If signed into law, the bill – named after a student killed while jogging on the University of Georgia campus – would mandate that immigration authorities detain illegal aliens convicted of theft-related crimes.

John Fetterman is signing on as a sponsor for the Senate version. In any interview, Senator Fetterman told Fox News that if his party fails to obtain seven Senate votes to pass the Act, then “that’s the reason why we lost.”

“If you’re here illegally and you’re committing crimes, I don’t know why anybody thinks that it’s controversial, that they all need to go,” Fetterman added.

Meanwhile, every single “no” vote in the House was cast by a Democrats including seven from the Garden State.

What’s arguably worse? On account of cowardice? NOT voting at all.

Two New Jersey Democrats did just that: Josh Gottheimer (D, NJ-05) and Mikie Sherrill (D, NJ-11). Uncoincidentally, both Democrats are also running for their party’s 2025 gubernatorial nomination and, in the process, seem to be actively abandoning any pretense that they’re anything other than radical Leftists.

“Shame on @Josh4Jersey & @MikieSherrill for gutlessly ducking a vote on the Laken Riley Act today,” GOP candidate Jack Ciattarelli posted on X. “This brave young woman fought till her last breath against a murderous illegal immigrant, but Josh/Mikie didn’t have the courage to stand up to their extreme far left base.”
