
Disgraced former U.S. Senator Bob Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Wednesday following his conviction on federal corruption charges last year.
Democrat responses ranged from muted to strangely wistful.
“Senator Menendez accomplished many things on behalf of our state, but sadly he will be remembered for putting his own interests and financial gain ahead of the public interest,” Murphy opined on X.
The convicted felon vowed to appeal during his remarks outside of the courthouse and even analogized his situation to the lawfare experiences of President Donald Trump.
“President Trump is right: this process is political and it’s corrupted to the core,” Menendez told a gaggle of reporters.
