The Garden State’s new interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba held a brief press availability on Monday outside of the White House after Donald Trump announced that she had been selected for the role of New Jersey’s chief federal law enforcement officer.
In her remarks, the now former 40-year-old White House counsel directly accused Cory Booker and Phil Murphy of failing the state of New Jersey.
“President Trump has just put out a statement that he has appointed me as the interim U.S. attorney for the state of New Jersey, my home state,” said Alina Habba. “There is corruption, there is injustice, and there is a heavy amount of crime right in Cory Booker’s backyard.”
Democrats were predictably less than enthused.
“I was a federal prosecutor in the New Jersey U.S. Attorney’s Office and I can think of few people who are less fit to serve as the U.S. Attorney than Alina Habba,” complained Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat candidate for governor. “She’s not only unqualified, but has shown time and time again that her allegiance is to Donald Trump — not the rule of law or the Constitution.”
