Intoxicated by the limelight from his filibuster, Save Jerseyans, Cory Booker is reportedly plotting a second act. Politico reports he’s organizing a trip to El Salvador to lobby for the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Abrego Garcia has become a cause célèbre in recent days as Democrats grasp for a way to critique President Trump’s popular immigration policies. Democrats insist that Garcia was wrongfully deported. The Trump Administration disputes their narrative, alleging that Garcia is a member of the notorious MS-13 gang.
“I think this illegal alien is exactly where he belongs—home in El Salvador. He was in our country illegally, he is from El Salvador, was born in El Salvador, and, oh, the media forgot to mention: He is a MS-13 gang member,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Tricia Mclaughlin told Fox News on Monday. “The media would love for you to believe that this is a media darling, that he is just a Maryland father. Osama Bin Laden was also a father, and yet, he was not a good guy, and they actually are both terrorists. He should be in this El Salvador prison, a prison for terrorists, and I hope he will remain there.”
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele visited the White House this week and colorfully declined to assist in returning Garcia to the United States.
Meanwhile, new polling results hint at Booker’s motive for booking a plane ticket: he’s the only Democrat aside from Kamala Harris who registers double-digit support (albeit barely) in a distant hypothetical 2028 primary. He also raised $1,651,651 in the first quarter of 2025, a haul which doesn’t reflect the full extent of his fundraising following his 25+ hour Senate filibuster.
Expect more antics! Spartacus thinks they’re working for him, and in the short term? He could be right. The Democrat Party of 2025 loves performative behavior, and New Jersey’s senior senator is a grand master.
