It’s officially political Silly Season, Save Jerseyans.
That’s the period of time in the immediate run-up to an election when politicians and their supporters, desperate to score points and running low on material, begin swinging wildly. We’re in the midst of silly season on steroids at the moment in New Jersey following President Trump’s endorsement of Jack Ciattarelli in the Republican gubernatorial primary. There’s a ton of resulting overheated rhetoric out there right now in social spaces. Enough to choke a horse!
Exhibit A: the son of General Michael Flynn took to X this week and suggested that President Trump was bribed (!!!) to endorse Ciattatelli in the GOP nominating contest. Yes; bribed.
“I wonder how much @Jack4NJ paid the Trump campaign for last night’s endorsement? A few million is my guess,” the younger Flynn posted on X, adding “And yes, politicians pay for endorsements.”
You probably remember that Trump pardoned his father, General Flynn, in 2020. General Flynn recently came to New Jersey to headline a small Ocean County boardwalk rally for the campaign of Bill Spadea.
Flynn Jr. didn’t provide any evidence to back up his shock claim probably because, as you’ve already surmised, there’s no basis to the claim…

Most Spadea backers online have avoided unsubstantiated bribery allegations; their outlook is reflected by their candidate who declared that the President had “endorsed a poll not a plan.“
Is accusing the President of being stupid better than declaring in a public forum that he’s corrupt?
Judge for yourselves. I’ve stayed neutral in this primary and will continue to do so, Save Jerseyans. This website exists to inform, not manipulate. Always has, always will.
I do want to give some free, unsolicited advice to Spadea supporters as someone who’s covered hundreds of successful (and failed) New Jersey Republican campaigns:
When you’re running from behind? And every second counts? Substantive, forceful contrasts are a vastly more attractive look than bitter, cringy fingerpointing.
