There’s a new SurveyUSA poll out today (click here) of the gubernatorial primary race that was reportedly commissioned by a Left-of-center group, Save Jerseyans.
There’s no head-to-head numbers for June 10th and the GOP primary field wasn’t polled (except for Jack Ciattarelli), but the results still might tell us one thing:
Jack Ciattarelli has more name recognition than any of the tested Democrats. We can safely assume that’s true of the GOP opposition, too.
Only 25% of likely voters were unfamiliar with Ciattarelli in the survey of 576 likely voters conducted between May 28rh and May 30th.
By contrast, 30% were unfamiliar with Mikie, 35% said the same for Ras Baraka, and 42% weren’t acquainted with Steven Fulop.
Ciattarelli’s edge isn’t insignificant especially if Sherrill stumbles.
In a populous state without a unified media market – and divided in half by two of the nation’s most expensive – and only two state-level statewide elected officials? Name recognition is hard (and extremely costly) to develop. The candidate who begins the election with the best name ID undeniably starts with an advantage.
