Fmr. “Republican” Gov. Christine Todd Whitman endorses Mikie Sherrill

You’re not surprised, are you?

On Thursday, former Republican Gov. Christine Todd Whitman endorsed the newly-minted New Jersey Democrat gubernatorial nominee Mikie Sherrill according according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Whitman’s rationale? “[I]t would be really nice to have another woman.”

“She’s the right person for the job,” Whitman offered to The Inquirer. “I’ve met with her. She knows how to organize.  She knows how to manage and to lead.”

The ex-governor also took a swing at the GOP nominee, complaining that “[f]rankly, Jack [Ciattarelli] has changed from the person I knew decades ago.”

Of course none of that is true, Save Jerseyans, and Whitman hasn’t really been a Republican for a long time (or ever, by the standards of 2025). But her endorsement of Sherrill IS significant. Not because there are many or any voters out there waiting to follow her lead in making a choice for governor. There are not. Whitman’s endorsement matters because it’s conclusive evidence that Sherrill is the status quo. She represents the establishment of which Whitman is a card-carrying member.

A vote for Sherrill is a vote to continue the line of failed governors – Florio through Murphy – which have screwed up the pension system, exploded property tax rates, and turned the Garden State from the economic engine of the East Coast to the struggling Democrat-abused jurisdiction it is today.

Whitman just confirmed it! In case there was any doubt remaining in your mind.
