The Republican Party is not as unanimous on the Middle East as it’s been in years past, but Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) came down strongly on the side of Israel on Friday amid ongoing Israeli operations to hobble the pariah state’s nuclear weapons program.
“Last night, Israel took decisive action to defend itself, its people, and the entire region from an existential threat,” said Congressman Van Drew. “Iran has made its intentions clear: they are actively working to develop nuclear weapons and will not hesitate to use them. This is a regime that chants ‘Death to America’, funds terrorist proxies that create chaos across the Middle East, and openly calls for the destruction of Israel. Letting them build a nuclear bomb is not an option. Israel’s actions were measured and justified. The United States must stand strongly alongside Israel and make absolutely certain that Iran never develops the capability to launch a nuclear attack.”
Iran, in turn, has condemned Israel’s strikes as a “declaration of war” and the Trump Administration has warned Iran to return to the table to discuss a nuclear deal or face further consequences at the hands of Israel.
