Did Spartacus finally jump the shark?

When Cory Booker executed a filibuster about (literally) nothing back in the spring, Save Jerseyans, his direction-starved, Trump-beaten party offered nearly universal praise. Throughout the Kavanaugh hearing theatrics, imaginary friends and outlandish statements, Democrats never rebuked the chronically embarrassing ex-Newark mayor even though the results of the 2020 primary made it clear that they never really took him all too seriously.

This week’s performance seems to have landed differently.

“Well, it’s great theater that we just saw. Cory Booker, a good guy, standing up and yelling on the floor of the United States Senate. What I don’t understand is he’s yelling at two other Democrats,” MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle opined on Wednesday’s episode of Morning Joe, reacting to Booker’s now infamous Senate floor meltdown over two pieces of police funding legislation. “The Democrats have enough problems in this country defining themselves to people, making sure people know they are alive, they are interested in your life, they are interested in you, solving problems.”

“Here’s what’s going on. The Democratic base is starving for a fighter. They’re starving for a fight,” added former Missouri Democrat U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill. “They want people to fight Donald Trump, because everyone is so frustrated and angry and depressed at everything he’s doing and how he’s doing it, and the cowardice of the Republicans across the aisle in the Senate who are knowingly doing terrible things and casting votes that I would never dreamt they would have cast, when I was serving with them in the Senate.”

“On the other side, you have Cory Booker unfairly criticizing two strong Democrats that are doing everything they can in their power to fight Donald Trump. And, you know, Amy’s right,” McCaskill continued. “There’s a way to change a bill. And then there’s a way to get in the opening segment of ‘Morning Joe’ and on the front page of The New York Times. And Cory chose the latter, rather than the former. He knew if he did this, it would be a viral moment, and he would be associated with Democrats who are willing to fight.”

So they’re finally figuring out that he’s a 56-year-old theater kid? Light on substance and heavy on narcissism?

Maybe. It’s obviously far more likely that they’ve always known he’s a bullshit artist but suddenly care because Booker is lashing out at members of his own team. He’s making it uncomfortable.

But we haven’t even gotten to the best part. After angrily ranting and raving and accusing his fellow Democrats of “complicity with an authoritarian leader who is trashing our country,” Booker didn’t even object when the bills came up for a vote! Both bills passed with unanimous consent.

Cory Booker jumped the shark with you and me a long time ago after arriving in Washington, D.C. The “Street Fight” mayoral challenger is a distant memory. Booker’s challenge relative to his national ambitions is that he may’ve finally jumped the shark with his own party. Democrats’ obsession with wokism, gender pseudo-science, and increasingly communistic ideas threatens the Left’s once undisputed grip on America’s dominant culture. If you don’t believe me, then go check out Joe Rogan’s latest podcast downloads or American Eagle’s booming jeans sales. Cory Booker is playing to a shrinking audience and his party’s leaders may understand that even if they’re unwilling (or unable) to do anything about it.
