Well, that certainly didn’t go as planned! But it’s probably what organizers should’ve expected.
A poorly attended Tuesday “Voter Ready BBQ” hosted by the Middlesex Democrats in New Brunswick compelled Mikie Sherrill and her entourage to make a hasty exist after hecklers peppered her with questions (including on the Democrat-dividing issue of Gaza). The emcee was forced to repeatedly beg for more clapping to drown out the hecklers – who seemingly rivaled the total number of non-trolling attendees – and to demonstrate feigned enthusiasm for the clearly uncomfortable Democrat gubernatorial nominee. At one point, the DJ turned up his music in an attempt to drown out dissenters demanding campaign specifics.
“I need more energy, folks!” Sherrill’s host implored the sparse assembly, having previously pleaded for “a little more clapping” as Sherrill entered ‘The Yard’ outdoor area.

Embarrassing? You bet.
The last thing I can remember which remotely resembled the Middlesex BBQ fiasco was that infamous Jeb Bush town hall during which he asked listless attendees to “please clap.”
Does this look or sound like a winning campaign to you?
