Trump tears into “slob” Christie over Bridgegate in wake of ABC appearance

You may not think it was possible, Save Jerseyans, but once formidable Trump-Christie relationship is now somehow deader than dead.

The 47th President of the United States ripped the ex-governor of New Jersey this week after Chris Christie, an ABC contributor, appeared on Sunday’s This Week program and laid into the Trump Department of Justice.

“Donald Trump sees himself as the person who gets to decide everything, and he doesn’t care about any separation. In fact, he absolutely rejects the idea that there should be separation between criminal investigations and the politically elected leader of the United States. This is much different than it’s ever been run before,” said Christie, reacting to the unfolding probe into former Trump advisor John Bolton. “But look, let me say candidly to the American people who are watching, you were told this. You were told that this was what he was going to do. And not by me, by Donald Trump during the 2024 campaign. He told you he was going to do this, that he was going to have a Justice Department that acted as his personal legal representation, and that is what they’re doing.”

Keep in mind: this is the same Chris Christie whose political star was knocked out of orbit by Bridgegate and, later, helped his Bridgegate attorney (Christopher Wray) become FBI director during the days of peak Biden lawfare.

Christie’s lack of self awareness wasn’t lost on President Trump who responded accordingly on Truth Social.

“I just watched Sloppy Chris Christie be interviewed on a ratings challenged “News” Show, “This Week With George Slopadopolus,” on ABC Fake News (By the way, what the “hell” happened to Jonathan Karl’s hair? He looks absolutely terrible!” POTUS posted. “It’s amazing what bad ratings, on a failed television show that was forced to pay me $16,000,000, can do to one’s appearance!). Can anyone believe anything that Sloppy Chris says? Do you remember the way he lied about the dangerous and deadly closure of the George Washington Bridge in order to stay out of prison, at the same time sacrificing people who worked for him, including a young mother, who spent years trying to fight off the vicious charges against her. Chris refused to take responsibility for these criminal acts. For the sake of JUSTICE, perhaps we should start looking at that very serious situation again? NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Prosecutors ultimately declined to proceed against Christie for his alleged role in the events that led to the 2013 Fort Lee lane closures which were intended to punish a local Democrat mayor who declined to endorse Christie’s reelection campaign. The statute of limitation for official misconduct of seven years has long since run. The “young mother” referenced by Trump was Bridget Kelly, Christie’s deputy chief of staff who subsequently saw her conviction overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. The State of New Jersey subsequently reimbursed Kelly to the tune of $7.25 million towards her attorney fees.

POTUS doesn’t consider the matter closed. He doubled down during a Monday press availability in the Oval Office, telling reporters that “Chris Christie is a slob, everyone knows it” with characteristic Trumpian flair:
