Op-Ed: The Case for Governor Ciattarelli

By Shawn Hyland

The New Jersey Family Policy Center (NJFPC) is a leading pro-family organization committed to advancing family values and parental rights at the state level. As part of a vibrant national alliance of nearly 40 other state family policy councils, NJFPC has been a steadfast advocate for New Jerseyans for over 30 years.

As Director of Advocacy for NJFPC, I believe Jack Ciattarelli is the conservative-minded leader New Jersey needs right now—and he deserves the support of pro-life and parental rights voters. The stakes are high, and the promise of a Ciattarelli administration has never been clearer.

First, if elected, conservative organizations will stand to benefit from Governor Ciattarelli’s executive authority, particularly his powers of appointment and oversight. Jack’s administration will be anchored by leaders who are deeply informed and fully committed to upholding parental rights within critical state agencies.

  • Jack will appoint a new Attorney General who will end the State’s misuse of the Law Against Discrimination, which has forced school boards into court simply for informing parents about their children’s gender confusion issues. His Attorney General will also rescind the consumer alert discouraging women from seeking support at pregnancy resource centers and halt the State’s targeting of life-affirming clinics.
  • Jack will appoint a new Commissioner of Education who in the short-term will revise the Transgender Student Guidelines within the Department of Education to ensure parents are informed about their child’s gender identity at school. At the same time, the parental rights movement will continue its long-term legislative fight to repeal the law that requires these guidelines to exist—even though school districts are not mandated to implement them. Additionally, the Commissioner of Education—together with those who will be appointed by Ciattarelli to serve on the State Board of Education—will overhaul curriculum standards to eliminate sexually explicit age-inappropriate content that has become pervasive in New Jersey’s public schools.
  • Jack will work tirelessly to advance the Parental Bill of Rights Act in our state legislature, ensuring greater transparency in public school curriculum and library materials. He will also champion expanded educational opportunities, empowering families to choose the learning environment that best meets their children’s needs.

Second, in my role leading policy initiatives for NJFPC, I’ve witnessed firsthand how, in recent years, Attorney General Matt Platkin has dragged pregnancy resource centers and local school boards to court—targeting institutions that serve families and uphold community values.

Let’s be clear: a future Mikie Sherrill administration would represent an unrestrained continuation of the morally indefensible Murphy agenda. Her record in Congress is deeply troubling and reveals a pattern of disregard for parental rights, women’s fairness in sports, and faith-based service providers.

  • Congresswoman Sherrill voted against the Parents Bill of Rights Act – sidelining families who simply want a voice in their children’s education.
  • Congresswoman Sherrill voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act – placing girls in unfair and unsafe competitions that put them at risk for injury, harm, and the loss of potential scholarships.
  • Congresswoman Sherrill sponsored the misleadingly named Stop Anti-Abortion Disinformation Act – an effort that unfairly targets faith-based pregnancy centers that compassionately serve women in need.

That is why I am fully looking forward with great hope to a Ciattarelli administration that will work alongside us and for us—unlike the current Murphy administration and potentially future Sherrill administration, that has actively opposed our values by fighting parents and pro-life New Jerseyans every step of the way.

Our values and our children are on the line—now is the moment to rise, unite, and fight for policies that defend families, protect parental authority, and preserve the principles we hold sacred.
