I’ve been mostly ambivalent about Mikie Sherrill, neither caring nor not caring. Until today.
What she said today about Charlie Kirk is exactly the language that got him killed.
There is such thing as an overt call to violence.
There also exists disgusting speech, like calling a man vile even before he is buried, as Mikie did today. Just spit in his widow’s face while you’re at it, Mikie.
The more sinister call to violence is the nuanced kind. The dog whistle to violence; the Manchurian Candidate trigger word to violence. That kind is more effective, bolstered by constant repetition.
When people lie and call someone destructive, seeking a theocracy, looking to destroy the rights of groups like women, Black people and others (or spred the fascist/Nazi lie), that can make impressionable young people want to kill in fear for their own freedom. It’s how Mikie lied of Charlie today.
Young men like this killer hear “Charlie is a fascist threat” from their college professors. Then they get 3 hours of “Charlie is a fascist” from cable news. Then endless “Charlie is a fascist” memes on social. Then they go to a concert and hear “Charlie is a fascist” from the singer. Then before bed they get 4 late night talk show hosts saying “Charlie is a fascist.” All of it sans the actual political definition of fascism.
Trust me on that. My family escaped fascism; the real deal, from the guy who invented it. There’s no fascists in either party here.
So when that same young man writes, “Hey fascist, catch!” on a bullet and kills Charlie Kirk, Mikie puts her hand to her chest, looks to the ceiling and sarcastically says with a satisfied grin, “Gee, I wonder what got into that boy?”
We know that is true because it is literally what just killed Charlie Kirk!!! I’m not prognosticating; I’m reciting last week’s news.
It’s also what got Trump shot.
Democrats need to stop using the word “opinion” as an excuse to lie. Not everything is opinion – there are objective truths. You don’t get to show me a circle and say it’s square because it’s just your opinion.
The Democrat sport right now is to lie about Charlie’s words, by hiding behind the “just my opinion” shield against accountability. It’s all to score their own political points and get others to hate people like Charlie (and kill him). Disgusting.
We’ve seen many, including writer Stephen King, fall for the out of context Charlie Kirk quote. But then we watched him do the right thing and investigate it, see that he had it wrong, reverse himself and apologize. Bravo Mr. King! That behavior is down right Charlie Kirkian.
The contrast is to be Mikie Sherillian.
Democrats say we’ve got to stop the violence and talk about our differences. Charlie agreed. He sat down and said let’s talk.
They never really wanted to talk. Democrats say let’s cool the rhetoric. Then the chief Sherillian, Mikie herself, promotes the lies; the nasty, meanspirited lies that led a young man to think he was in such acute danger that he had to kill Charlie to save himself.
Is she mindful or not that it’s a call to violence? Some paste-eating moron on a social media comment thread might actually be unmindful. But not a cunning congresswomen. She knows she made a call for more violence today.
I’d dare Mikie to look at all Charlie’s words in context to see she was wrong and reverse herself. But she’s no Stephen King. She’ll see she was wrong and keep lying because she’s a politician trying to be governor.
Charlie’s kids will read it all some day. You really want to be governor that badly, Mikie?
I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up the Asbury Park triCityNews where a Mikie supporter has a column. Her first few paragraphs call Charlie every awful name and proclaim with certainty he is a threat to America – the usual hate. Two paragraphs later she bragged she has never, ever, once listened to Charlie speak. Good grief. And it still got published.
That is downright “Sherillian.”
Don’t be Sherillian.
