I have to tell you, Save Jerseyans: watching New Jersey Democrats cry about the “weaponization” of our legal system against Mikie Sherrill is absolutely hilarious. Were they asleep between 2021 and 2025?
Oh right. They were definitely awake, weaponizing EVERY lever of power against Donald Trump and his allies.
On Thursday, Democrats went into meltdown mode over a pair of twin disasters: a poll showing Mikie Sherrill tied with Jack Ciattarelli AND the revelation that Sherrill – who has built her entire campaign and identity around being a former Navy helicopter pilot – was BARRED from her Naval Academy graduation due to her conduct in relation to a cheating scandal. Their defense? Offense, accusing the Ciattarelli campaign of “doxxing” Sherrill since the federal FOIA records custodian released the records unredacted. Oh, and as expected, more lazy fingerpointing at the President of the United States.
“This is an illegal and dangerous weaponization of the federal government,” complained Sherrill, without any apparent cognizance of the irony (see above), via her X page.
“My friend @MikieSherrill proudly served our country,” added Virginia Democrat gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger. “Her military service should be honored — not questioned and certainly not weaponized. The Trump Administration’s breach of privacy is a slap in the face to our nation’s brave servicemembers. It’s shameful.”
The Ciattarelli campaign, for its part, continued to focus on Sherrill’s glaringly lack of transparency and questioned Sherrill’s narrative in the wake of the scandal breaking nationally.
Meanwhile, Ciattarelli campaign counsel Mark Sheridan fired back at Sherrill’s attorneys with a letter outling misconceptions advanced by both the Democrat establishment and certain media outlets.
You can click here to read Sheridan’s correspondence:
“The campaign did not request that Mr. DeGregorio submit a FOIA, he did so on his own. On or about July 3, 2024, the National Archives and Records Administration (“NARA”) responded to Mr. DeGregorio’s request by providing approximately 85 pages of records. Contrary to your client’s claims, the records contain no information about Representative Sherrill’s involvement in the cheating scandal at the United States Naval Academy. In fact, the campaign had already contacted NARA and the United States Naval Academy Nimitz Library about records documenting the investigations into the cheating scandal and the involvement of Representative Sherrill. Those records are specifically cataloged at the Nimitz Library as “Series 6: RECORDS RELATING TO THE 1992 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CHEATING SCANDAL.” CFG was advised that the records would not be produced, nor would the campaign be granted access to review absent sign off from Representative Sherrill or her husband. CFG took no steps to formally request this information since it assumed – correctly it turns out – that Representative Sherrill would take all steps necessary to hide her involvement in the cheating scandal from the public.”
The Sherrill campaign could easily clear everything up by consenting to release the records but, as of this writing, have not done so to the surprise of absolutely no one.
