I wouldn’t want to defend socialism either, Save Jerseyans!
It’s been reported (see below) that Socialist Democrat NJ-11 candidate Analilia Mejia rejected a League of Women Voters (LWV) debate after she wasn’t allowed to help pick the moderators. That’s right… she wanted veto power over who’d be asking her questions!
“Just as we did for the special primary election Meet & Greet, the proposed general election debate was planned to engage a diverse audience that reflects all communities in District 11,” LWV explained in a statement. “The planned moderator was a League trained professional and a person of color. This moderator would have asked questions taken directly from CD 11 voters ahead of the debate and from the audience during the forum. We were asked to provide a campaign with a list of potential moderators for approval. This is a request that the League of Women Voters cannot accommodate. Our nonpartisan stance does not permit a candidate to influence the selection of the moderator.”
Certainly on brand for a socialist! And all the more fascinating for the fact that the LWV has a reputation as a solid left-leaning organization. Mejia, for her part, claimed her refusal to debate was actually a DEI-rooted objection.
Her GOP opponent says that’s hogwash:
“Analilia chose to mislead voters and frame it as a diversity issue. That’s a huge problem. If she’ll misrepresent something this straightforward, what else is she willing to mislead voters about?”
The NJ-11 special to select Mikie Sherrill’s successor in Congress is scheduled for April 16th. The winner will need to immediately face another another primary in June and a second general election in November.
