NEW YORK, NY – Governor Mikie Sherrill is claiming New Jersey now has the “best” voter registration system in the country, but she won’t confirm whether all noncitizens have been removed from the rolls as midterm voting continues across the Garden State.
During a Tuesday evening appearance on WNYC’s ‘Ask the Governor’ program, Sherrill vaguely referenced steps her administration allegedly took to remove non-citizens from the rolls after a forced admission that thousands were enrolled by the MVC – and hundreds had voted.
“Um, I think we have taken all of the steps that we can take,” Sherrill hedged when asked by the interviewer.
To his credit, the journalist followed up and the Democrat governor still declined to offer a guarantee.
Sherrill continues to downplay the scope of the problem.
Also on Tuesday, a trio of legislators wrote to the U.S. Department of Justice asking for assistance in probing and auditing the state’s rolls after the revelation of yet another noncitizen voter who was registered outside of the MVC “glitch” window.
