NEW JERSEY — Democratic U.S. Senator Cory Booker has defeated Republican challenger Justin Murphy in New Jersey’s 2026 U.S. Senate election, securing another six-year term in Washington.
Murphy, a Republican political newcomer, sought to unseat the two-term incumbent in a state where Democrats have held both U.S. Senate seats for decades.
Booker, first elected in a 2013 special election, will begin his third full term in January 2027.
Murphy’s defeat continues a lengthy Republican drought in New Jersey Senate elections. The GOP has not won a U.S. Senate race in the Garden State since Clifford Case’s reelection in 1972.
