John Boehner is a man on an island right now, Save Jerseyans, and he’s about to endure at least one more verbal drubbing before it’s all over.
Governor Chris Christie has scheduled a last minute presser for 2:00 p.m. today to address the Sandy relief bill that’s waiting for a floor vote. His prelude tweets suggest he plans to slam the House GOP; Christie tweeted to his 300k+ followers his belief that “[w]hen American citizens are in need we come to their aid. That tradition was abandoned in the House last night.”
There’s a lot of emotions raging out there right now on our side, folks. And that’s usually a bad thing.
What we need right now more than anything is clarity. Along those lines, I sincerely wish the Governor would also use today’s conference to point out the hypocrisy of an Obama-backed tax increase on New Jerseyans while they’re trying to dig out from Sandy’s aftermath. The fiscal cliff bill is a joke, and it will disproporionately hurt his state’s residents. But I’m not expecting any reference to that dimensions in his remarks, and if I’m correct, that’s a missed opportunity. The GOP needs new leadership. Governor Christie likely agrees, and he’s still reasonably well positioned to provide that desperately needed leadership given his national celebrity status. But if he won’t take the lead on challenging this President’s ridiculously inaccurate and/or deceitful premises, then who will?

The joint statement of Governor Christie and NY Governor Cuomo is below the fold…
With all that New York and New Jersey and our millions of residents and small businesses have suffered and endured, this continued inaction and indifference by the House of Representatives is inexcusable. It has now been 66 days since Hurricane Sandy hit and 27 days since President Obama put forth a responsible aid proposal that passed with a bipartisan vote in the Senate while the House has failed to even bring it to the floor. This failure to come to the aid of Americans following a severe and devastating natural disaster is unprecedented. The fact that days continue to go by while people suffer, families are out of their homes, and men and women remain jobless and struggling during these harsh winter months is a dereliction of duty. When American citizens are in need we come to their aid. That tradition was abandoned in the House last night.
The people of our states can no long afford to wait while politicians in Washington play games.”
Maybe he should call Obama back from his Hawaii vacation to get this bill passed? Obama loved the photo opportunity with Governor Christie……where is the help from Obama?
